AutoLog Crane Array: Drive System and Active SpreaderPhoto Gallery:
Client Need:For a project funded by Office of Naval Research, client required development of servo-like primary movers and a custom active spreader system for development of AutoLog double-burton crane array. Spreader system needed the ability to auto-acquire 1/4 scale ISO containers weighing 800 lbs. D&K Solution:Performed thorough kinematic analysis to establish all loading conditions and subsequently designed, procured, built, tested, characterized and delivered four 20 Hp closed-loop vector controlled VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) powered winch systems. Designed, developed and delivered custom active spreader bar system with control authority of rotation of entire spreader bar as well actuation of locking mechanism to transport ISO containers. Sensing paddles were also integrated to help automatically locate containers. Results:D&K delivered prototypes on budget and on schedule that successfully demonstrated auto-acquisition of 1/4-scale ISO containers utilizing the AutoLog concept. All performance requirements were met and accuracy and repeatability of the system was maintained to less than 1/16th of an inch. Successful at-sea trials were conducted and future evolutions of the project were funded as a result. |
