Client Need:

D&K was engaged to create a Virtual Test Bed of the existing Navy UNREP Cargo transfer system in order to optimize the control system developed, to improve the operability, and ensure the robustness of the system over a wide range of dynamic conditions.

D&K Solution:

A detailed physics-based mathematical model was developed to simulate all critical dynamic elements of the Navy UNREP Cargo transfer system. A dynamic visual output was produced to readily show the effect of varying input parameters on the system.

Results:

The UVTB has been a critical tool in the development of the control system for the Heavy UNREP system. The model effectively displayed the dynamic response of the system when subject to a wide range of ship motions, loading conditions, operator commands, and sea states. This model was then used to refine the control algorithm of the new control system to assure its stability over the wide possible range of dynamic conditions.
