Client Need:

Client was manufacturing product internally and wanted to transfer production to a contract manufacturer that also had the technical capability to take over engineering responsibility for their complex electromechanical commercial product.

D&K Solution:

Ramped up production at D&K facility, took over and streamlined entire supply chain, managed all inventory, developed efficient manufacturing process with internally developed process control systems (i-Metrix) and shipped product directly from D&K to Clients world wide. Supported Clients field engineering force on installations, trouble shooting and problem resolution.

Once D&K began contract manufacturing Client's product, cost needed to be reduced and reliability and serviceability improved, so D&K took over total engineering responsibility for the product (mechanical, electrical, software and firmware). Launched re-design efforts of high-cost components, performed design of experiments (DOEs) to improve operational performance, re-architected critical systems for improved reliability and serviceability.

Results:

Successfully ramped production of product in two months. Throughput and quality goals were met. Reduced build time by 20%, reduced labor cost by 30%, reduced material cost through supply chain agreements and redesign by 15%. Re-design efforts then shrunk BOM part count by 400 parts, improved serviceability, and improved product field reliability by over 50%.
