Engineering Contractor: Mechanical Engineering
D&K Engineering has opportunities for the following Mechanical Engineering Position:
- Independent Contractor: Intermediate to Senior Level
We are looking for dynamic individuals who are passionate about engineering and excited about working in a dynamic R&D team environment, with exposure to all aspects of the mechanical engineering process - including concept development, design, prototyping, testing and manufacturing.
Responsibilities (depending on level of expertise) include:
- Developing multiple product concepts or improve existing products for the same customer product requirements at the system/part/component level
- Developing innovative and robust mechanical solutions at the component/system assembly level of design using kinematics principles for product design – experience designing mechanisms, gears, motors, springs, valves, linkages is desired
- Developing solid models and layouts, selecting appropriate materials and processes, performing engineering FEA analysis, generating production drawings and other related project tasks.
- Turning product design concepts/solutions into manufacturable products using a variety of high-and-low volume manufacturing processes
- Performing analysis of design reliability, serviceability and manufacturability
- Developing detailed CAD models and drawings using SolidWorks
- Building proof of concept models to verify designs
- Actively participate in project team environment, coordinating with other mechanical, electrical, software and industrial engineers on detailed design work
- Working within budget and schedule restraints while working under the direction of Principal Engineer or Program Manager
- Participating in design reviews and clearly articulating design concepts
Qualifications
- BSME or equivalent
- Results oriented self-starter with track record of delivering results.
- Ability to work in a team environment and manage multiple complex cross-functional projects with changing responsibilities.
- Experience in entire design cycle (from concept, through prototyping, product release, and into full scale manufacturing)
- Excellent theoretical and demonstrated knowledge of design and mechanical engineering analysis/practices (i.e. materials, tolerances, component specifications/evaluation, trade-off analysis, basic structural and fluid analysis)
- Experience in design for manufacturing of mechanical parts and/or components using plastic injection molding, machining, sheet metal, metal casting
- Knowledge of design for manufacturing and manufacturing techniques
- Experience in both low and high volume manufacturing
- Experience with prototyping and outsourcing practices – understand the relative benefits, limitations and costs associated with each
- Experience developing product Bill of Materials and tracking BOM costs.
- Solid Works 3D solid modeling experience, complex surfacing a plus
- Product configuration management experience, PDMWorks experience is preferred
- Strong verbal, written and presentation skills with ability to articulate and communicate ideas
